”Recorded at Studio Underground” in combination with ”Produced by Pelle Saether” usually means quality sound (yes, I know I’m biased). SCAAR is however no exception to that rule. The name is highly suitable, as the brutal music and brick heavy sound may very well cause severely scarred eardrums if played too loud. SCAAR has one or two musical similarities with bands like PANTERA and MACHINE HEAD, but they do know how to give the listener at least some time to breathe, like in the pre solo-section of “Evil Strangeland”. They’re also really good at mixing raw staccato-chords with nice haunting riffs. “Shut Up Or I’ll Kill Ya” begins in a heavy mode to suddenly speed up, surprisingly enough without double bass-drum plodding! Singer Alex Jonsson is a rough edged vocal chord buster in the vein of Anselmo. The amount of bands that can produce this type of heavy power thrash metal is 15 on the dozen today, but what I like about SCAAR is that they also produces really good memorable songs. So, who will be the first to sign these guys?
